The Fennec Fox Plea

    by Janet Faulk

“Oh Mom, I had an ‘accident’,

I’m sorry as can be,

I did my best to bury it

And hoped you wouldn’t see”

“I jumped up on the table, Mom

There’s no denying that.

I’m not supposed to be there, but

I had to chase the cat.”

“While I was playing hide and seek

(As you can plainly see,)

A potted plant dropped off the shelf

And nearly fell on me!”

“You scolded when I scratched the door

And mussed up all the rugs.

But I was hunting spiders and

Those tasty big black bugs.”

“So pick me up and rock me, Mom,

It’s been a busy day,

I guess I caused some trouble, but

You love me anyway.”

And when my eyes grow heavy, Mom,

Please put me in my box.

We’ll play again tomorrow,” sighed

The sleepy fennec fox.
